Kingdom Asparagus believes that with care, attention to detail and the cooperation of Mother Nature, wonderful tasting asparagus can be created.
How we work
With a constant focus on quality, Kingdom Asparagus contracts with local famers to grow and harvest fresh asparagus. We support farmers by providing asparagus plants, field preparation services and continual training. Farmers do not go into debt working with us. We are committed to this business for the long term, which dictates how we work with farmers and our land management practices.
Asparagus is a long living perennial vegetable. It's common to keep the same asparagus plants in a home garden for over 25 years.
A field of asparagus can take three years to establish before the first significant harvests can occur.
Fresh asparagus is a great source of anti-oxidants, folates, B-complex vitamins and minerals such as iron and copper.
Long considered a delicacy, written records show both Greek and Roman emperors went to great lengths to enjoy asparagus at their banquets.
The only difference between green and white asparagus is that white asparagus spears have been kept covered by soil or sheeting as they grow so as not to turn green and photosynthesize.
Historically an expensive and rare spring treat, modern global transportation has made fresh asparagus available to us for most of the calendar year.
